The data communication network provides for Ethernet communication between the Control Centre at Capital Park and all the 132kV primary substations and 11 kV satellite substations operated by the Department.  The network also provide dedicated channels for use by the SCADA network, as well as the power line protection network.  Ample capacity is also provided for use by other parties in the form of multiple E1 data channels

At the start of 2005 it was decided to extend the network to include approximately 200 satellite (11kV) substations in the network.  This is scheduled for commissioning in 2006.
